Christus Victor

Just in case Julius Caesar comes to town, you’ll know one Latin phrase to begin a conversation – “Christ is Victorious” or “Christ the Victor” over “sin, death and the power of the devil” as Luther puts it. This is the Easter message:

Christ died for us and is risen from the dead.
His victory becomes our victory.

This stained-glass window shows “the Lamb that was slain has begun his reign,” and symbolizes the banner of Christ’s love unfurled in victory – a celebration of God’s love for us. Christ went to the cross out of love for us and all sinners, won our redemption and gives us the benefit of the victory – the gracious acceptance and forgiveness of God and life everlasting. These are the gifts of Easter – not candy and eggs and bunnies. Come and be a part of this celebration of God’s life and love for us in Christ.
